Ifeanyiubah goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa finally secured a visa to Britain on Monday and is set to join the players who have arrived at the Super Eagles’ London camp ahead of their friendly games against Senegal and Burkina Faso.
The Eagles face Senegal’s Teranga Lions on Wednesday – and Burkina Faso’s Stallions on March 27 in the English capital.
Our correspondent learnt that the Nigeria Football Federation had encountered difficulties in getting a visa for Ezenwa, who is the only domestic league player invited by Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr for the fixtures. But the British High Commission granted the keeper a visa to travel to London after he fulfilled all the requirements.
Meanwhile, Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi, Hannover 96’s rising star Noah Bazee, Portugal-based defender Chidozie Awaziem, Watford forward Isaac Success, Turkey-based midfielder Ogenyi Onazi and Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme were among the first to arrive at the Eagles’ Crowne Plaza camp on Monday.
According to the team’s official Twitter handle, the six players, who arrived in the afternoon, were later joined by off-form Leicester winger Ahmed Musa and his teammate Wilfred Ndidi, as well as Belgium-based forward Simon Moses, Tyronne Ebuehi, Kelechi Iheanacho, John Ogu and Anorthosis Famagusta’s Shehu Abdullahi in the evening.
Our correspondent learnt that the majority of the 25 players invited to camp were expected to join up with their colleagues on Monday night.
Rohr, who is said to be enthralled by Bazee’s directness, pace, power, trickery and his ability to find the killer pass, is expected to focus on the 20-year-old during the two warm-up matches ahead of the Eagles’ 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in June, as well as their Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying double-header against Cameroon on August 28 and September 2.
The German will also focus his attention on versatile Porto player Awaziem, who has earned rave reviews in Portugal.
